The Mekong Delta is the bottom half of Vietnam's two rice baskets, the other being the Red River Delta in the North. This vast delta is formed by the deposition of the multiple tentacles and tributaries of the mighty Mekong River which has its origin in the Tibetan highland plateau 2,800 miles away.

This trip is truly an opportunity to participate in the everyday life of the Mekong Delta. We travel through beautiful areas of lush fruit orchard, endless paddy fields, lively floating market and busy canals.

Day 1: Saigon – Cai Be – Chau Doc
In the morning we drive to Cai Be for a boat trip to floating market. We cruise over mighty Mekong River to a beautiful island where we promenade around fruit orchards and have lunch in local restaurant. More cruise to Vinh Long Town. We drive along the Mekong River to Long Xuyen. Visit to the village making incense stick before heading onto Chau Doc for the first night. Overnight in hotel in Chau Doc Town.

Day 2: Chau Doc – Can Tho
Up early for a cruise through the amazing riverside market with all its bustling activity and smorgasbord of sounds, colours and smells. We also cruise through the floating village with tons and tons of fish farmed underneath hundreds of shelters. Discover the ethnic Cham village with its famous Mubarak Mosque and watch the locals go about their traditional weaving. After visiting the famous Lady Chua Xu Temple, which date from 1820, we walk up the sacred Sam Mountain with its panoramic view over the vast plains into Cambodia. After lunch we drive to Bang Lang Bird Sanctuary, where we see hundred different kinds of birds. Continue to Can Tho Town for our second night.

Day 3: Can Tho – Saigon
An early start for a boat trip to Cai Rang floating market, one of the busiest fruit market in Southeast Asia. We have a long distance cruise & walk on a quiet country road to take in the magnificent scenery and get close to the locals as they go about their daily routine. Back to Can Tho we try “xe loi”, the local colonial-era cab pulled by motorbike, on a country road. In the afternoon we head back to Saigon. Back in Saigon around 18:00. Trip completes.
